Toydogs: トイドッグ

A Collection of Photographs by John Owens
As an artist, small collections of objects inform and act as a catalyst for new work. These serendipitously found collections develop creative clusters that are revealed over time. This collection of toy plastic dogs is one of these clusters.

The photographs were originally planned as sharp focus, individual portraits and stories. However while photographing the project, the dogs seemed more interesting and engaging blurred. They evoked images of past pets. The vivid color reminiscent is of idealized childhood memories of the family pet.

On a technical note, the images are as shot with no cropping. No blur or other filters have been used. Digital manipulation was kept to a minimum. The color levels were auto adjusted with minor changes. On a few of the images, the color saturation was altered slightly but otherwise the color is as photographed.
